Shamanic healing is based on ancient indigenous practices used to treat the spiritual aspects of an illness.  It is an earth based medicine.  This approach is founded on the belief that our bodies and spirits are composed of various centers of energy, also known as 'chakras.'

We all have a physical body and we also have an energy body.  It extends several inches from our physical body and you may have heard it called an aura or an electro magnetic field.

We all go through experiences in our lives that may cause us harm. This can be from past relationships, job situations, family situations, etc. These experiences may create heavy energy that gets stuck in the energy body. In spite of our best efforts to change or think differently, we still carry around the energy of those experiences and it can make change difficult.  When the body's natural energy flow is blocked or if it carries this heavy energy it may delay the healing process.  When this occurs a chakra may need to be cleaned to help clear blockages.

People sometimes seek shamanic healing to compliment treatment for emotional, physical or mental illness.  They also seek shamanic healing when other methods have failed.  Some examples of why people come to a Shaman include: feeling blocked in their creativity, grief over loss of a loved one, fear of heights, recovering from a break-up, physical pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder.  Shamanic healing seeks to address the problem at its source and not merely to cure the symptoms.

A shaman is a person who acts as an intermediary between the natural and supernatural worlds for the purpose of curing the sick, divination and control over natural events.  One is either born a shaman or becomes a shaman.  A person is initiated into the shamanic practice after being given the rites by experienced shamans.
